Artist Statement

Stephen Lee's sculptures begin with the belief and appreciation that a fundamental language exists across all art forms—one that, much like musical scales or culinary recipes, has the power to evoke powerful emotions and sensations when skillfully arranged.

An emerging artist in Dallas, Texas, Lee creates abstract compositions inspired by his lifelong curated perceptions - tones & manners in objects, relationships between elements, the beauty of motion, and the delight found in rhythm and patterns. His primary approach is the spirit of hand fabrication of metals via plasma-cutting, forging, welding – sometimes combining with other materials such as concrete, wood, and fabric. Lee shapes compositions in a painterly manner, foregoing detailed plans which allows edits to happen freely and become important visual elements that speak to the journeys of creating.

Through his exploration of this universal language, Lee strives to create sculptures that embody the personas of intriguing, complex beings. Each piece communicates its unique essence, inviting curiosity and engagement from viewers.
